Enabling airports around the world through the UX design of world class operational software
The client
Veovo (part of the ASX listed Gentrack group), provides airport operational software to the world’s leading airports with a complex suite of products covering every aspect from operational to financial systems and their integration with the wider airport ecosystem.
Opportunity
We ran a collaborative design process directly with the Veovo team rather than handing over research findings from a distance. We tested concepts regularly with customers across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Finland, Iceland and the US, so the design held up against airports operating under genuinely different conditions rather than just the ones closest to home. For the larger modules we embedded directly in the team rather than working at arm’s length, and that relationship has continued past any single release: we still dip in and out to support new concepts as Veovo needs them, rather than treating the engagement as a fixed scope that ends at delivery.
Approach
We facilitated a collaborative design process with the Veovo team with concepts regularly tested with customers in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Finland, Iceland, and the US. We took an embedded team approach for the larger modules and to this day, dip in and out to provide support or new concepts to the team as required.
Outcomes
Veovo ended up with a configurable workspace that actually holds up across both operational and administrative roles, built on a component based design framework that has made design and development faster since. As with the workflow itself, the research capability was built to outlast the engagement: we transferred the user research facilitation process to Veovo’s own team, so testing new concepts with customers does not rely on our availability.
